Certainly, it was never an easy thing for the African violet enthusiast to choose from among the many African violets varieties offered in the past.
Now, with the appearance of the newest, the selection is made even more difficult.

Collections, therefore, will expand, and, as popular as the saintpaulia has been, its Hooper rating will zoom in still higher.
It will be much easier for most fanciers to have extra shelves built to accommodate new African violet plants than to forgo the pleasure of owning a few of the introductions that held everyone spellbound at the spring show this year.

Some of those made available for the first time—vigorous, prolific bloomers of an incredible charm and often new form and tint—are described here.
Alma Wright
Alma Wright (Fischer), the long-awaited double white, is truly a double white. It has luscious, creamy, extra-large, full blossoms and medium green, pointed, slightly notched leaves with lighter petioles.
The loveliness and perfection of my glamorous namesake will delight you! But, patience! This masterpiece of Fischer’s will not be ready until 1952.
Apollo
Apollo (Fischer) is a good-looking violet with large, semi-double, light blue blossoms that resemble singles but have the daintiest rosettes of petals about the yellow center. These are carried on sturdy stems well above the foliage.
This is a good bloomer that holds its flowers for a long time. It is a variety sure to please connoisseurs because of its many superior characteristics.
Azure Beauty
Azure Beauty (Ulery) is an arrestingly beautiful plant, one of the most popular of the new double-flowering Rainbow Series.
It has light blue and white, long-lasting flowers that open wide in distinctive clusters.
Bess Stuck
Bess Stuck (Russward), a graceful grower, is another of the captivating variegated saint paulias with lovely pastel blue flowers delicately rayed and mottled over with white.
Blue Heiress
Blue Heiress (Ulery), with scalloped “girl-type” foliage, is a fine duPont sort. Its giant blooms, some with six petals, are a brilliant blue and of a heavy substance. This is a husky, superb variety, sure to hold its own everywhere.
Brussels Sprouts
Brussels Sprouts (Fischer), definitely in a class by itself, has utterly amazing blossoms. It is appropriately named a dramatic, surprising violet.
Its double blossoms, leafy in texture and deeply serrated, vary in color from greenish-white to medium blue.
It may be called the Parrot Tulip of the saintpaulia family. It was a “standout” at the National Exhibit that every collector will want.
Crazy Quilt
Crazy Quilt (Violet Treasure House) should be an interesting plant to grow. Its orchid flowers, rayed and streaked in a darker shade, are striking.
Its most unusual feature, however, is its leaves. They are two shades of green, so dappled and combined with looking like a crazy quilt.
Dark Beauty
Dark Beauty (Ulery) is one of the picturesque Rainbow Series. It is a double white with a dark blue center that extends into the blossom to create a lovely effect.
Prominent yellow pollen sacs in many blooms add to the effect—enhancing the unusual blending of dark blue and white.
Dark Norseman
Dark Norseman (J. A. Peterson) is all that its name implies. It has the same charming shade as our good friend Norseman and boasts the same fine foliage and form. This has a variety of merits.
Garnet King
Garnet King (Ulery), a new red, even darker than the richly textured Red King, is the darkest to date. Foliage is red-veined and red on the reverse side.
Geneva Rainbow
Geneva Rainbow (Geneva & Sunnydale). Everyone will want this appealing plant with its sugar-white margined burgundy flowers.
It is the red counterpart of the lovely Lady Geneva. Foliage, a medium green, is a little notched at the edges. Those who like something a bit out of the ordinary will like this.
Gorgeous Blue Wonder
Gorgeous Blue Wonder (Ulery) offers an enchanting blend of white and pale to marine blue blossoms that are delightfully rayed.
Neat, light green leaves are carried on paler green petioles. It has a nice growth habit and, when mature, makes a stunning plant with its light and dark contrast.
Gypsy Alma Girl
Gypsy Alma Girl (Select Violet House) has very frilly, bronzy leaves and spotted blush wine at the base. The rich, dark color of these against the pale, cup-shaped flowers is most fetching. Moreover, blossoms are bicolor.
The lower petals are a light orchid, and the top two are paler orchids deepening to dark tips. This vivid, glowing plant is a generous bloomer.
Gypsy Pink
Gypsy Pink (Select Violet House) is a fine addition to our so few pinks. Blossoms are a very deep shade with cup form, heavy texture, and long-lasting qualities.
Innocence
Innocence (Ulery), as pure white, as its name suggests, is a welcome addition. Its glistening flowers are well-formed, and its medium green leaves are red-veined on the underside.
Lacy Girl
Lacy Girl (West Side), introduced early in the year, achieved immediate success. It has the most unusual large, dark purple blossoms with heavily ruffled edges. Its heavy, firm leaves also have waved-crenated edges. This is an African violet sensation, an aristocrat.
My Best Girl
My Best Girl (Orchard). This “little girl” is for you if you like dwarf varieties. It has dainty, double-red blooms held nicely above dressy foliage.
Navy Bouquet
Navy Bouquet (Tinari) has lush, heavy, double clusters of medium blue rose-like flowers on sturdy, upright stems.
Its double flowers and its perfect form and luxuriant, glossy, quilted, crinkle-edged foliage make this a magnificent plant, one to make people exclaim, “What a beautiful African violet.” It is blue.
Pink Luster
Pink Luster (Tinari) is another gem with flowers with a tint of old pink luster. It is a seedling of the well-known Blue Eyes with many of the latter’s fine characteristics.
It is a good performer, producing a continuous abundance of clear soft-pink blossoms placed well above typical Blue Eyes foliage. Everyone will want this always graceful variety, but it won’t be available until the spring.
Rose
Rose (Ulery), one of the interesting Rainbow Series, intriguing because of the variation in color in the same blossom cluster, is an entrancing rose and white double.
Blossoms may be white-edged roses, or half a blossom may be suffused with shades of the Rose as though touched with a fairy wand. A good bloomer with medium green leaves, the Rose is a plant to fall in love with.
Rose Marie
Rose Marie (Ulery) is a true rose with no suggestion of blue. Instead, its two top petals are a deeper shade than the lower three, with a rose-colored pistil.
Foliage is dark green, rather heavily quilted, and has a rosy underside. This praiseworthy saintpaulia is to be recommended.
Ruby Bouquet
Ruby Bouquet (Tinari), a redder red than the well-known Red King, is a clear dark shade that will enhance a group of sister plants or add cheer to any dull spot.
The clusters of double blossoms are held well above the medium green foliage and lightly quilted. A plant you will be proud to display.
Star Sapphire
Star Sapphire (Robert Craig) was introduced this past summer. It has deep blue flowers with a triple pollen center and an unusual star shape. Star Sapphire is a good bloomer and easily propagated.
Snow Girl
Snow Girl (Ulery) will be prized for its large, full white flowers. The plant is compact, vigorous, and has scalloped leaves having a white spot that’s very decorative at its base. Snow Girl will be a favorite.
Snow Prince
Snow Prince (Ulery) is a pure white with full, round blossoms of excellent quality and substance. It possesses superior growth habits. A mature plant with quilted medium green leaves and snowy white blossoms is especially attractive.
Tear Drop
Tear Drop (Fischer) is a sweet plant, a dainty miniature with semi-double blossoms. Although tiny, Tear Drop produces a profusion of blooms that resemble baby blue roses. This little darling demands attention.
Yellow Brown Girl
Yellow Brown Girl (Select Violet House) will interest all hybridizers and confirmed hobbyists. It is an “experimental yellow!” Its crinkled, cup-shaped blossoms are yellowish-brownish; its leaves are the nice “girl-type.”
If you are keenly interested in seedlings, you will surely want to try your hand with one of these and do a little cross pollinating. It will be fun and might produce the yellow we are all seeking!
